Bill Irmer began studying the art of Tang Soo Do in February of 1989. His first Martial Art instructor was Lini Lieberman-Erich. Ms. Lieberman was the original founder of Sierra Self Defense Studio and currently holds a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Tang Soo Do. Ms. Lieberman moved to Sea Ranch, CA in 1991 and turned the school over to two of her students Brian Domes and Doug Gunselman. Mr. Domes and Mr. Gunselman, who were both 1st Dan Black Belts, ran the school as partners until 1994. In 1995 Mr. Gunselman took over ownership and served as the schools Senior Instructor until he retired in November of 2002. Mr. Gunselman currently holds a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Tang Soo Do and has tested for his 3rd Dan. Mr. Irmer’s current instructor is Master Brooks Matsuda, a 5th Dan WPTSD Do Black Belt and Association Director. Mr. Irmer has been teaching Tang Soo Do since 1994. Mr. Irmer was awarded his 1st Dan Black Belt in February of 2000, and is now the sole owner of Sierra Self Defense Studio and serves as its Chief Instructor. Mr. Irmer is 43 years old, and is married to Maria, his wonderful wife of 20 years, and has 3 children who are ages 17, 12 and 7. His Daughter Laura, will graduate from Argonaut High School (valedictorian) this year and plans to pursue a Masters degree at the University of CA Davis. His son Brian is a student at Ione Jr. High, a purple belt in Tang So Do and an accomplished Little League Baseball player. His youngest Kristen attends Ione Elementary, is an excellent student and just tested and was awarded her 10th gup White Belt in Tang Soo Do. Mr. Irmer believes strongly in the importance of community service and has been involved in coaching Little League Baseball since 1997. He also serves as a Certified Judge at GSKA Karate Tournaments and has helped introduce Tang Soo Do Karate to 100’s of kids through Amador County’s Unified School Districts “Kids College Program.
